U.P. adopts economic development action plan

| November 28, 2012

The University Place City Council adopted the Economic Development Strategic Action Plan at its Nov. 19 meeting. This master document provides an outline for the City’s Economic Development staff and members of the Economic Development Commission to guide their efforts over the next five years. By working with local partners, the goal is to increase opportunities for consumers, businesses owners and members of the workforce to support and help grow the economy in University Place.

Three specific Economic Development goals are included in the strategic plan, including:

  • Retaining existing businesses and assisting in their development and expansion.
  • Marketing and promoting University Place businesses, events, schools, arts and other community assets.
  • Creating a competitive business environment for current and future businesses.

The City Council also asked the Economic Development Commission to study tourism in 2013 in order to identify areas of opportunity that can benefit local businesses.
