Tacoma 3rd graders to receive dictionaries
The Tacoma North Rotary Club will be distributing free dictionaries to every public and private 3rd grade student in Tacoma beginning Thursday, November 15th. The club has been providing free dictionaries to third graders for the past 6 years. Club members will be handing out the dictionaries to students in 3rd grade classrooms throughout the city during the next few weeks.
Maria Gross, Tacoma North Rotary Literacy Chair stated, “I love this project because I get to see the students’ faces light up as we hand each 3rd grader his or her own book. We are helping excite our future generation about the love of learning!”
According to Olga Lay, Principal of Point Defiance Elementary School, “the most fun part of the dictionary project is the kids getting these for themselves. Some of our little children have no books they can call their own and what a fun gift they can have forever. They love the longest word which takes an entire page and the teachers use the dictionaries to teach them life-long skills. What an amazing gift for Tacoma North Rotary to share with our students.”
