Hular Scott Geyer ReissHular Scott Geyer Riess – Born March 5, 1913, Hular passed from this Earthly plain February 22, 2013, just 11 days before her 100th birthday with her family at her side to bid her a quiet adieu.

Hular was preceded in death by her first husband, Orval Geyer; her second husband, Al Riess; her daughter, Carita Fern Magnault; her daughter-in-law Peg Geyer; two sister and three brothers. She is survived by her sister, Sarah Renfrow; her son Gene (Lynn) Geyer, their children Damon and Dorothy; and son Dean Geyer, his children; April (Andrew Magdaleno) and Jason (Cindy); her grandsons Randy (Marlene), Jim (Beth) and Pat (Anita) Burdette; 6 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandsons; and many nieces, nephews and their children.

Hular was born in Booker, Arkansas; the family moved to Kellyville, Oklahoma, on the Polecat River in 1914 in a covered wagon, then on to Leedy, Oklahoma, in 1926 where her father built a log cabin. George Scott was a farmer. Therefore, all the children helped with the farm chores. Hular remembered picking cotton for 25 cents a hundred weight. Little schooling was available and what there was was spasmodic. However, Hular managed to complete the eighth grade, between picking cotton and baking biscuits for the whole family—every morning of her life since age seven.

When she was 17, she started corresponding with Orval Geyer; Hular and Orval were married December 15, 1931.

The couple finally moved to Oakwood, Oklahoma, where their daughter was born. By 1938, they were in Seiling, Oklahoma, where their first son was born. They were in Hennessey, Oklahoma, in 1947 running a Laundromat when their final son was born.

After moving to Enid, El Reno and Oklahoma City by 1951, the Geyer family headed to the promised land of California, settling in the Glendale area. Orval worked at Jessup Dairy; Hular worked at a local motel.

In 1968, Hular and Orval ended their marriage due to irreconcilable differences. He returned to Oklahoma and Hular assumed a lease at the motel where she had worked for many years, which was owned by Nan and Al Riess.

Ten years later, after making thousands of beds, Hular ended her lease. Nan had passed away and Al and Hular began “keeping company.” They were married in 1981 and lived on Orcas Island, Washington. Sadly, Al passed that same year.

Hular moved to Burien, Washington, in 1982 and began the happiest years of her life since her children were small. Retired and on a moderate income, she made many friends in that pleasant community. Hular traveled to China, Scandinavia, the Philippines and the Caribbean, as well as most of the United States.

After her travels, Hular was content to stay home; she remained quite active. Her favorite pastimes were attending her quilting club meetings at the Lake Burien Presbyterian Church, gardening, watching television, doing her word search puzzles but most of all, quilting – she made a quilt for each of her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

After her 92nd birthday, Hular stopped driving and moved to Lakewood, Washington, in 2005 to be near her son, Gene.

She lived comfortably in her apartment at Lakewood Meadows until her 98th year when she said she was tired of keeping house and cooking for herself. She moved to The Village in October, 2011, where she celebrated her 99th birthday with family and friends.

November 20, 2012, Hular was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital; she was finally diagnosed with a spinal cord infarction complicated by Spinal Stenosis. Hular was released to Orchard Park Convalescent until she returned to her apartment at the Village where she passed her final days under the supervision the home’s very responsible and caring nursing staff, headed by Billie Tague, and Diane from Franciscan Hospice. Hular’s son, Gene, and grandson, Damon, never missed a day visiting her; her daughter-in-law, Lynn, and granddaughter, Dorothy, became very frequent visitors; her younger son, Dean, came to visit from California; her niece and nephew, Connie and Rollin Lewis, came from Olympia. She spoke on the phone with her sister Sarah in Texas and her grandchildren in California. Love surrounded her, constantly.

A simple, pragmatic person, Hular always said of herself, “Remember me as I am. I am what I am and that’s all that I am.”

However, her family knows she is more than that. This quiet, gentle lady will always be the beloved Matriarch of her family.

For her family and friends, a celebration of the Life of Hular Scott Geyer Riess will be held in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park Friday, March 1, 2013 at 11 a.m.

Alyn Albrecht Urbach’s spirit was set free Feb.9, 2013 after a long time at the Georgian house nursing home in Lakewood.

Alyn was born April 3 1955 in Modesto Calif. And lived her early years in the Bay area tagging along with her big brother Steve, she was even lovingly nicknamed “me too” because if Steve asked to go somewhere Alyn would just call out, me too.

Alyn started swimming in San Jose then when the family moved to Finley at 14 she quickly found and joined the local swim team the Atomic Dolphins and met Vikki Hanna who became life- long friends. Their favorite hangout became Finley lagoon on horseback. Alyn attended Finley and Kennewick high schools. She also attended the Livermore school of business before going to Georgia to stay with her dad while getting to meet her cousins on the east coast. It was while she was in Marietta Georgia that she bought her first car,  a 1973Trans-a.m., and in the fall of 1974 Alyn returned to the Tri-Cities and continued working as a meat wrapper, a job she became known for due to her loyal customers that she took the time to greet or answer any of their questions.

Alyn met Randy Wayne Urbach and they married in 1978. Their daughter Amy Lacey came along in 1981. As Amy grew and began showing sheep in 4-H and competing in barrel racing club and then into High School rodeo Alyn was always so very proud of Amy’s accomplishments. Alyn enjoyed meeting and getting to know all of the many families that were also involved in her daughter’s activities and Randy’s rodeo family. Alyn always looked up to Bud and Betty Urbach, she also loved the farm life being an animal lover she always had some pet that she belonged to.

Alyn was a free spirit, who loved all things, she always longed to fly more or to go to the beach but a trip to Ringold would make her just as happy. She also enjoyed many years of riding her horses in the sand dunes between road 68 and road 100.

Alyn was stricken with moyamoya disease in 2000 and after a couple of cranial by-pass surgeries came home for awhile only to begin a battle with diabetes which proved to be difficult.

Alyn is preceded in passing by Everett Olmstead Albrecht and survived by her daughter Amy Garza(David), mother Virginia Stewart, brothers Steve Pendergraft and Mac T.J. Albrecht, sister Zana Griffith(Jack) grandchildren, (Lacey Alyn, Alex, Isaac,& Daniel- due in two months) numerous nieces and nephews. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, special close friends, Ex-in-laws and may-be an outlaw or two.

Alyn’s family would wish that anyone who is diagnosed with diabetes do the best they can to learn what their own bodies needs are, how it reacts to all foods consumed and take advantage of all that the diabetic association has to offer, it’s there to try to help prevent these unforeseen events from happening. No services have been set at this time.  Donations may be made to any diabetic association. Feel welcome to sign Alyn’s book of memories at mountainviewtacoma.com.

Rest in Peace Alyn we love you.
