LASA to build new Client Services Center
LAKEWOOD – LASA, formerly known as Lakewood Area Shelter Association, now deemed Living Access Support Alliance, will build a new Client Services Center in June.
LASA is a local nonprofit that provides emergency and transitional housing programs, case management, and preventative services to the surrounding community. Not only do they offer rent, utility, transportation, and prescription assistance, but they collect and keep a stock of toiletries, clothing and household items to meet clients’ needs with the resources available.
Their story began 23 years ago as a response to an increasing community need for homeless prevention services. Community needs continue to change, and so too must LASA as they strive to provide quality services.
Plans for the construction of LASA’s Client Services Center include 15 units of low income housing to address the demand for additional affordable housing in the county. They also seek to expand their offering of outreach services to include shower and laundry facilities, as well as a partnership with MDC’s Healthcare for the Homeless.
Construction of the new facility requires the demolition of their existing space; therefore the organization is looking for temporary low-cost office space to house their administration during the construction period. LASA expects to be displaced for approximately 8 to 10 months, as the project is slated for completion in the spring of 2014.
They would like to employ the assistance of the community in their search for a transitory office space while they are waiting for the construction of their facility to be completed.
