Denny Heck, the member-elect from Washington’s new 10th Congressional District, has announced the top two hires for his Washington, D.C. office, to start at the beginning of the 113th Congress in January 2013.
Hart Edmonson, who served as Heck’s campaign manager, will be Chief of Staff. Edmonson previously worked for Congressman Norm Dicks handling a portfolio of healthcare, housing and labor policy. He graduated with a B.A. from the University of Puget Sound, where he served as Student Body President, and an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
Jami Burgess, a Tacoma native and graduate of Stadium High School, will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff. Burgess has worked for Congressman Norm Dicks for over a decade, most recently as his Military Legislative Assistant. She brings with her a deep understanding of Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Burgess graduated with a B.A. from American University in Washington D.C. and recently completed the Air Command and Staff College program.
“I feel very fortunate to have Hart and Jami join my new team in D.C. Both are top caliber individuals who know the 10th district and the workings of Congress very well. They will help me hit the ground running in the upcoming challenging session of Congress,” Heck said.
Heck will be the first member of Congress from Washington’s new 10th Congressional district. Heck received more than 58% of the vote on Tuesday night and won every county in the new district.
Denny Heck, 60, is an entrepreneur, former State Representative and co-founder of TVW, a statewide public affairs TV channel in Washington State.
