Mr. Ian Home has been named the principal at St. Frances Cabrini for the 2011-12 school year. Ian is the first male principal Cabrini school has ever had in our 58 year history! After working as a substitute teacher in the Peninsula School District, Mr. Home earned his Master’s in Teaching Degree from City University in 2000. After earning his Principal Credentials from City University, he spent a year as Assistant Principal at Chautauqua Elementary School on Vashon Island. He comes to St. Frances Cabrini from St Nicholas School in Gig Harbor where he served as Vice Principal and 5th grade teacher since 2006.
Ian is an amateur farmer who loves sports, gardening, camping, singing and spending time with his family, wife Anna-sara and their 3 daughters, Eleanor (9), Molly (7) and Josie (5). Posted by | CommentsFrom Lakewood Promise's 'Paint Your Wagon' program and website: "Check out the Garden of Stewardship, located outside the front door of St. Frances Cabrini School. There is so much to this wagon that we kept taking more pictures. Those with a "green thumb" will appreciate the plants and the "homey" feel of this wagon."
St. Frances students visit McChord
Posted by | CommentsThank Col. Kevin J. Kilb, Commander of the 62nd Airlift Wing, and his wife Stacey, parents of two St. Frances Cabrini students, who invited the Kindergarten and 1st grade classes to visit McChord Air Force Base. The tour included a walk through of the flying squadron, a visit to the static air display, which is a history of the different planes in our US Air Force, a meeting with Sparky the Fire Protector of the flight line and the absolute highlight was sitting in the cockpit of a C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft with "thousands of buttons to look at, not push." The tour also included a drive around the Base to show the small town atmosphere that is present on McChord. This self-sufficient town includes banks, a Post Office, the Base Exchange, a Commissary, chapels, movie theaters, restaurants, a bowling ally, golf course, housing developments, a stable, trout-stocked ponds and even a campground. So many civilians surrounding our bases never get the opportunity to see first hand our military installations and all that goes into defending our nation. This was an A+ field trip and a wonderful opportunity for many of our parents to go too! St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School thanks all our retired and active duty military for your incredible service to our country! May God bless each and every one of you!
Spring Event at Bair Bistro
Posted by | CommentsForty-three members and guests of the Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a "Spring Evening at The Bair" on Thursday, April 22. Representing the Port of Tacoma, Connie Bacon was the featured guest speaker during the dinner. She stated that the Port is currently conducting a "nationwide search for a new CEO who is trustworthy, who will tell us the right story in business for the Port of Tacoma, who understands strategic thinking, and is a go-getter." According to Bacon, the Port of Tacoma is "beginning to see a tiny rise in activity, but anticipates steady growth over the next five years." She added that the Port has spent $170M to clean-up Puget Sound and Commencement Bay. There are ongoing negotiations with the Puyallup Tribe about possibly operating a terminal, as well. Bus tours of the Port of Tacoma are available to the public and scheduled every couple of months.
