Deployed parents, families to enjoy commencement webcast
The Clover Park School District will be offering live webcasting of the district’s two high school commencement ceremonies for military parents, family members, neighbors and friends who are deployed and unable to attend the event in person on Monday June 17, 2013.
Gary Wilson is retiring
After working in Clover Park School District for more than 30 years, assistant superintendent for secondary schools Gary Wilson is retiring. Wilson began his career in Clover Park as an elementary school teacher and served as the principal of Parkway, Heartwood, Tillicum, Oakwood and Park Lodge Elementary Schools and Lochburn Middle School. In 2004, he began his district administrative duties as the director of student services.
District provides summer opportunities for academic success

Beginning Monday, July 15, nearly 700 district students will continue to improve their math and reading skills during Clover Park School District’s elementary and middle school summer school sessions, which will continue through Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Summer school classes will be held Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at six elementary and two middle school locations:
TNT: CPSD to get $91 million to rebuild school
The News Tribune is reporting the Defense Department will spend nearly $91 million to demolish and rebuild three JBLM-located schools, operated by the Clover Park School District.
Plan Your Kids’ Summer at the Summer Activities Fair

SSIR spotlights Communities in Schools

The article gives detail to a strategy proven to decrease drop out rates and increase graduation rates. District and CPEA collaborate to set 2013-14 calendar

The Clover Park School District (CPSD) and Clover Park Education Association (CPEA) recently set the 2013 -14 school year calendar. Dates for parent teacher conferences and professional development half days will be determined at a later date.
The 2013-14 school year calendar is posted on the district’s website and information will be sent to families through each school. Dates for parent teacher conferences and professional development will be added to the calendar as they become available.
Employees of the Year selected for Clover Park School District

Three Clover Park School District (CPSD) employees were honored as Employees of the Year at a districtwide celebration May 13. Since 1987, CPSD has honored exemplary employees in three categories: certificated, classified and administrative. Award recipients are chosen by an independent panel of Lakewood citizens. 2013 CPSD Employees of the Year are:
- Nichole Moeller, Certificated Employee of the Year;
- Charles Skipwith, Classified Employee of the Year; and
- Ron Banner, Administrative Employee of the Year.
CPSD community relations and publications offices awarded by state association

Clover Park School District’s community relations and publications departments received several publication and electronic media awards from the Washington School Public Relations Association (WSPRA). The team was given an award of excellence for photography. Awards of merit were given for two other photographs and in the following categories: marketing materials, external print newsletter and internal electronic newsletter. The district’s full color calendar and the Lakewood Career Academy’s handbook received honorable mentions. Entries were judged by industry experts outside of WSPRA to provide chapter members with feedback and suggestions.
A Young Maker Faire for Lakewood

The young people at the Lakewood Computer Clubhouse are hoping to create a Young Maker Faire in late-August. We hope to encourage a “summer of making” by ALL youth in Lakewood and we have developed partnerships with other youth programs in the city to make this happen.
GTCF funds CISL

LAKEWOOD – The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation (GTCF) has announced that Communities In Schools of Lakewood (CISL) has been awarded a $7,000 grant as a part of the Vibrant Community Grants Program. Funds will be used to support CISL programs at Tyee Park, Tillicum, Southgate and Oakwood Elementary Schools, and Lochburn Middle school.
CPSD kindergarten registration begins May 13

Clover Park School District elementary schools will register new kindergartners for the 2013-14 school year beginning Monday, May 13. During the week of May 13, each elementary school will hold a kindergarten orientation for students and their families. Orientation dates and times will be listed on the events calendar on the district website, www.cloverpark.k12.wa.us.
CPSD: School board adjusts May meeting schedule

The Clover Park School District Board of Directors will hold a special meeting/workshop on Monday, May 6. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. with a discussion of legislative priorities and will move into an executive session for the purpose of discussing the superintendent’s evaluation.
Community invited to provide input on district’s Native American Education program

Parents, students and community members are encouraged to attend a public forum to learn more about Clover Park School District’s Native American Education program. The forum will be held Thursday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Woodbrook Middle School cafeteria, 14920 Spring Street in Lakewood.
