Josie Emmons Turner, a humanities and creative writing teacher from Clover Park High School, was named the 2011-13 Poet Laureate of Tacoma. Over the next two years, Turner will provide free poetry related workshops, readings at public events and help plan and facilitate Art at Work Week.

Members of the Clover Park High School Class of 1961 is planning its 50th Reunion Gala. Contact Committee Chairperson Mary McAllister for more information. Please include your name, address, and e-mail contact information so the committee can sent you notices as the event nears. The reunion will be held at Fircrest Golf and Country Club (1500 Regents Blvd, Fircrest - 253-381-4990) on September 17 and a Brunch on September 18.
U.S. flag from Afghanistan gifted to Clover Park High School

In an effort to thank Clover Park High School students and staff for their support of servicemen and women, Captain Tammy Childs—daughter of school nurse Sue Biles—presented Principal John Seaton with a flag flown in Afghanistan.
Students from the school’s Air Force JROTC classes and school staff members sent 150 homemade stockings filled with gadgets and treats to members of the 31st Combat Support Hospital (CHS), who distributed the stockings to wounded Marines being treated at Camp Dwyer in Afghanistan.

Hana Page receives scholarship to UPenn

Hana says, "I am grateful and excited to receive the QuestBridge College Match scholarship. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to pursue my passion in math and science at the University of Pennsylvania"

Clover Park, Lakes celebrate state championships

It’s celebration time in Clover Park School District! For the first time in its history, Clover Park School District is home to the 2A and 3A state boys basketball champions. On Saturday, March 5, Clover Park beat Squalicum High School, 69-54, in Yakima and Lakes beat Bellevue High School, 71-56, in the Tacoma Dome, to win the state championships for their divisions. Both schools honored their championship teams and their coaches in special assemblies Monday. The Clover Park Warriors defeated Port Angeles, 54-42, in an elimination game on Saturday. They will play River Ridge in the quarterfinals Thursday, March 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the Yakima SunDome. The Lakes Lancers beat Decatur, 73-67, on Saturday, advancing them to the Tacoma Dome, where they'll play O'Dea Thursday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.wiaa.com.
Clover Park senior receives full ride to the Ivy League

Hana Page wants to cure cancer. Thanks to a $58,000, full-ride scholarship from the University of Pennsylvania, she’s one step closer to fulfilling her dream. Page, a Clover Park High School senior—received a full-ride academic scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania to cover tuition, room and board, books and expenses.
CP boy's win West Central District III Championship

The Clover Park High School boy's basketball team beat Fife, 54-38 on Feb. 21 to win the West Central District III Championship and secure a number one seed to the state tournament. The Warriors will play Squalicum High School this Friday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. at Mount Tahoma High School. The Lakes High School boy's basketball team will play Mt. Vernon High School this Friday, Feb. 25 at 5:45 p.m. at Bellevue College. Game schedules and additional information are available at www.wiaa.com.
CP High School Class of 1961 reunion planned

Four CPSD students earn hefty college scholarships

The dream of attending college has become a reality for four Clover Park School District students who earned Act Six scholarships to attend Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) and Northwest University.
Three Clover Park High School seniors—James Mamerto, Jesus Rosales and Miguel Smith—will attend PLU. Lakes High School senior Cindy Ramirez will attend Kirkland’s Northwest University. In total, 48 high school seniors from the Puget Sound area and Spokane earned full-need scholarships, partnered with college preparation assistance, peer support and leadership training.

Four football players signed letters of intent Feb. 2 to play football at Central Washington, Pacific Lutheran (PLU) and Washington State Universities (WSU). Clover Park's Tana Pritchard and Lakes' Eddie Releford both signed with WSU. Lakes' Kyle Schueler and Daniel Davis signed with Central and PLU, respectively.

CP vs. Sumner basketball games moved to Feb. 3

Clover Park High School's basketball games against Sumner High School, originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 4, have been moved to Thursday, Feb. 3. There is no school Feb. 4 due to semester break. Game times and locations remain the same—the boy's will play at Clover Park at 7 p.m. and the girl's will play at Sumner at 7 p.m.
Tana Pritchard to sign letter of intent for WSU

Tana Pritchard, a senior from Clover Park High School, will sign a letter of intent to play football at Washington State University (WSU) on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in the school’s library, 11023 Gravelly Lake Drive SW in Lakewood.
Pritchard, son of David and Kelli Pritchard, has been the starting varsity quarterback for the Warriors since his freshman year of high school in 2007. He also played defensive back and was the team’s punter. Pritchard ended the season with an average of 6.71 yards per carry with 107 carries for 718 yards and 12 touchdowns. He threw for 1,620 yards with 123 completions on 233 passing attempts, 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.
Community invited to celebrate life of Dr. King with CPHS students
Posted by | CommentsClover Park High School students are hosting "March of Dreams" on Monday, Jan. 17 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Fort Steilacoom Park's Waughop Lake. Community members are invited to walk around the lake—rain or shine—and reflect on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Posters will be on display depicting key events from his life. Light refreshments will be available after the walk.
