Park Lodge’s Terese High honored with Community Leadership award

Park Lodge Elementary’s Terese High received the Washington Association of School Administrator’s (WASA) Community Leadership award May 17 during WASA’s monthly regional meeting at Fife School District administration offices. The award is presented to community members in recognition of their outstanding contributions toward education.

In spite of heavy rains that pounded the rhododendrons at Lakewold Gardens (and other gardens around the Sound) recently, taking time to stroll the pathways always offers something to enjoy. A favorite garden-spotting place is inside the 20th century Gazebo at the north end of Lakewold’s patterned brick walk.
Cobalt Mortgage awards $115,700 in scholarships
Cobalt Mortgage Dollars for Scholars, a three-year old non-profit organization, partnered with individual donors, business partners, and the employees of Cobalt Mortgage in the creation of scholarships to help students pursue their post-secondary education goals. This August, over $115,000 in scholarship funds will be distributed to 80 deserving students in the states of Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Utah, and Oklahoma. That’s more than a two-fold increase over 2012 awards.
Oakbrook pool opening

Oakbrook Community Pool & Tennis Foundation (Oakbrook Pool on Ruby) is ready for summer. The water is warm, the deck and courts are scrubbed, the red geraniums are showing up, and an excellent staff is in place. Bret Forman from Puget Sound Aquatics, a year-round team will coach our swimmers and Jeff Rice (Lakewood Racquet Club) is offering lessons for all ages, team opportunities and activities at the tennis courts. Ping pong and volleyball are also available as well as take outs from the Oakhouse Restaurant just down the road.

Lakes to host annual Artasia event May 22

LAKEWOOD – Lakes High School has hosted an annual celebration of the arts known as Artasia for more than 40 years. This year’s event is Wednesday, May 22 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the high school’s Pathways Building, 10320 Farwest Drive in Lakewood.

Arlington National Cemetery to be re-created at CP High School for Memorial Day

Community members are encouraged to visit Clover Park High School’s replica of Arlington National Cemetery for Memorial Day. Students will set up markers on the high school’s front lawn for the Arlington Project beginning Monday, May 20 at 7:30 a.m. This is the seventh year of the project which is designed to honor soldiers who have died in conflicts.
