Tacoma couple wins 1956 Bel Air, American Lake Veterans Golf Course wins...
Posted by | CommentsLAKEWOOD, Wash., April 22, 2012 – A raffle spanning nine months and resulting in the sale of over 15,000 tickets culminated last Monday with a drawing at the American Lake Veterans Golf Course in Lakewood. Chris and Brandy Nix of Tacoma drove away as winners of a fully restored 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air — but they weren't the only winners. The raffle was a fundraising event for the Friends of American Lake Veterans Golf Course (FALGV), a 501.c.3 charitable organization, and raffle proceeds will go toward the continued improvement, care and maintenance of the golf course which is utilized by thousands of veterans each year. Its believed to be the only course of its kind in the country— and one that is heavily utilized by wounded and recovering veterans seeking physical and emotional rehabilitation through the game of golf.
Tickets were sold since last May at events around the Puget Sound for $10 each. On Monday, the winning ticket was pulled by John Raqust, a patient at the American Lake VA Hospital and a participant in the golf course's Blind Golfer Rehab program.
