DuPont: Finance committee moving forward, much still to do
Posted by | CommentsBy Mike Courts, Councilmember, DuPont
The Mayor’s Finance Committee has been moving forward for almost 2 months now. The committee has conducted in-depth reviews and discussions on the current city fiscal situation, department budgets and potential cuts and sources of revenues. We have debated quality of life issues, public safety, governance and taxes. The discussion has been spirited at times but useful. We have reached the point where the committee is preparing to prioritize options that raise revenues and to cut spending to give to the Mayor and City Council. I cannot speak for anyone other than myself, but I believe the exercise has been useful and only wish more citizens were able to get this detailed a look at how our city functions and is resourced. I would like to thank our Mayor, Michael Grayum, for having the courage and foresight to undertake this effort. In the next couple of weeks there will be a town hall meeting at which the finance committee will present their recommendations and respond to public questions. The date time and place will be announced soon. This is an important event that will inform the City Leadership of how the public views the current situation and how best to proceed. I would encourage all of you to attend and become better informed and express your opinion.
