A busy year for Caring for Kids

Posted by | Comments Comments Off

By Diane Formoso

Caring for Kids has had a very busy year. In Clover Park School District alone 71% of the kids are on free and reduced lunch with 95% of that number being free. Being an all volunteer organization we work every day helping our kids in need. Since the first day of school in September, working directly with school staff, we have filled 723 clothing bank orders. The year end total is 1,423 orders for 2011. In August we held the Ready to Learn Fair and participated in two additional events at Springbrook Park and Tillicum Community Center. We helped 2,441 kids with school supplies, backpacks and hygiene products. In 2011with the Ready to Learn Fair and the school supply bank orders we helped a total of 3,485 kids in need with school supplies.

Dr. Adam Poyfair - Making a Difference

Posted by | Comments Comments Off

Dr. Adam Poyfair, a new dentist in our community, has volunteered for the Medical Teams International Dental Van. This beautiful new van is a mobile dental unit that goes directly to the schools and other sites to meet the needs of many of our students with moderate to severe dental needs. This effort is in partnership with Caring for Kids. The van services the kids at Tyee Park, Southgate and Dower, and will do a special day at Clover Park High School. The biggest problem we face is a volunteer dentist for the one day commitments. So we want to thank Dr. Adam Poyfair for making a difference in our community! Call and thank Dr. Poyfair, Light Dental Studio, 471-2222. If you are a dentist or you know a dentist who would volunteer for a day please call Diane Formoso at 253-279-9777.

Donate Your Used or New Bikes to Kiwanis

Posted by | Comments Comments Off

If you did not know, the Clover Park Kiwanis is back in the bike business again. All new and used bikes are collected and the used bikes are repaired by McNeil Island inmates. What a great way for these men to give back to the community and the bikes look like brand new! Once repaired the bikes are distributed to kids in our community that can not afford their own bike. Seventy bikes were given out at the Caring for Kids Holiday Fair. Please call Roger 253-230-1558 or Diane at 253-279-9777 and donate your bikes and trikes!

Caring for Kids - Making a Difference

Posted by | Comments Comments Off

On December 12th the Caring for Kids Holiday Fair helped 2,476 kids in our community with food and gifts. The following weekend December 19th we also supported the Food Connection Mobile Food Bank at Springbrook by providing toys, bath products, potatoes and a small bag of canned goods to 164 families.

We are also happy to share that 91 high school and middle school students, along with community volunteers, spent Saturday November 29th volunteering for Stuff the Bus at Clover Park High School. At the Holiday Fair at least 100 volunteers helped Friday and Saturday to fill the 650 family baskets. The families showed up at 11 A.M. and we were finished and out of Hudtloff Middle School by 2:30 P.M. We want to thank everyone for their support!

This has been a very demanding year for Caring for Kids, but we are making a difference. Please mark your calendar for February 20th for our “Happy Hearts……Caring for Kids" Auction, which is our major fundraiser. Order your tickets ($35 including dinner) by email, carekids@comcast.net or 279-9777. All of the proceeds will go directly to help our kids. We are also looking for sponsorships and auction items.
