CWA not only won the regional competition decisively and qualified for state as the #1 seed, but did so competing for the first time two divisions above schools its own size. In the final rounds of these two competitions, CWA defeated Stadium High School, Bellarmine Prep and Federal Way Public Academy.

“CWA’s consistently excellent performance is testimony not only to the school’s outstanding academics, but especially to the talent and work ethic of its students,” said Coach John Lemma. “Charles Wright is always the school to beat.”

Did anyone notice the “army” of kids working industriously at the Old Settlers Cemetery on Washington Blvd on Saturday? Well, they were helping a Boy Scout, Leavitt Castro, with his Eagle Scout Project. They will be replacing the fence around the cemetery. “I am excited to be serving the community in which I have lived all my life and want to make a difference in making Lakewood a beautiful place to live,” said Leavitt. “I feel the appearance of this cemetery reflects how we respect our ancestors. The existing fence is an eyesore.” Leavitt is making a difference and it hasn’t been easy. There were challenges to overcome and he has handled each of them. He has taken care of all of the details to include getting approval from Pierce County, gaining support from a non-profit organization and obtaining a cooperative business to provide the supplies at cost.

Thursday, March 11, 2010, is going to be a rockin good time. At Tillicum Elementary, a 50’s party (and dinner) to benefit the Tillicum Centennial will be held. The group will be serving chicken alfredo and salad, with root beer floats for dessert. Come on down and be prepared to have some fun. If you have some 50’s attire (poodle skirt, cocktail dress and hat, suit with skinny tie, etc.), come decked out! If not, show up anyway and have a blast! This time the tickets bought ahead of time will be the usual price, $7.50 for adults and $4.00 for kids (under 3 free), but adults will be $10 at the door. It is hard to get a count when everyone buys their tickets at the door and we want to have enough food without lots of leftovers. Call Karen 253-983-9093, or buy tickets in advance at Tillicum Elementary School, or the Bill’s Boathouse in Tillicum, or the Tillicum Community Center. Be there or be square!!
