The Lakewood City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Transportation Funding will meet on Thursday, February 2, 9, 16 and March 1 at 4:30 pm in Lakewood City Hall in the Executive Conference Room 3A (Third Floor), 6000 Main Street SW, Lakewood WA 98499. The purpose of the meeting to to discuss transportation funding.

The Lakewood Boys & Girls Club will takeover The Ram Restaurant & Brewery (in Lakewood) on Tuesday, January 31st.  From 4-9 p.m., the Ram in Lakewood will donate 10% of all proceeds to the Lakewood Boys & Girls Club.  So, lets try to fill this place. Please, come on out enjoy some great food and drinks and support our youth at the Lakewood Boys & Girls Club.

The signature drive to stop High Speed Rail (HSR) through Lakewood continues to March 2. Two 2'x4’ banners have been created for the signature gathering sites (Post Office, Library and Safeway).  Volunteers will be coordinated via communitymattersweb@gmail.com.  All materials will be made available which also can be found here.

Members of Lakewood Rotary braved cold temperatures Wednesday morning to fix the "Welcome to Lakewood" sign at the intersection of 127th and Nyanza. Steve Mazoff, Duncan Cook, Greg Horn, Richard Simmons, Ted Wier and Lowell Johnson (from left) repaired the sign (originally erected by Lakewood Rotary) which suffered damage at the hands of a vehicle.

Lakewood, WA – At approximately 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, West Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to reports of car into a building at the Moon Rise Café, located at 6020 Main Street in the Lakewood Towne Center.  Upon responding, crews found one car in the front of the building.  One patient was transported to a local-area hospital with minor injuries.  The restaurant will be closed until further notice. While on scene at the Moon Rise Café, crews were dispatched to a motor vehicle incident at 4500 Steilacoom Boulevard, where a truck rear-ended a Pierce Transit bus.  Five patients were transported to local-area hospitals with minor injuries.

The celebration will feature community advocates who will share what service and community means to them. Speakers include Tacoma City Council member Victoria Woodards; community organizer and an executive at United Parcel Service Frank Boykin; and Executive Director of The Evergreen State College, Tacoma campus, Dr. Artee Young, who will provide the keynote address.

Every January, Americans look ahead with the desire to start the New Year with fresh ideas and hopes to improve.  The U. S. Small Business Administration is doing the same thing - regularly meeting with lenders and resources partners to get feedback on ways to improve our loan programs and services.  And, this past year, the SBA engaged over 150 community lenders in all 50 states to provide comments on ways that the SBA’s CAPLines Program could work more effectively for both SBA lenders and small businesses, as this program has been underutilized.
