A school supply drive initiated by Kiwanis Student Support Committee Chair (and Saltar’s Point Liaison), Jeni Martinez, resulted in a donation of backpacks and supplies for 19 students at Saltar’s Point elementary.

"Former Steilacoom High School Key Club member, Barbara Martinez, was a great support doing the shopping and getting the best bang for our Kiwanian dollar", Jeni Martinez proudly stated. After taking the first box of supplies home, Barbara assessed what we had and made a list of what was still needed.

I brought this forward at one of our membership meetings and fellow Kiwanians graciously remained true to our mission of “serving the children of the world”.  In just that one meeting $210 was donated. This was enough to finish up the supplies needed, plus there was enough money left over to purchase 13 student planners, Jeni exclaimed!
Backpacks, supplies, and $39 for the purchase of 13 student  planners was delivered to Saltar’s Point principal, Joel Lang, on Tuesday morning, August 23.

Mr. Lang expressed his appreciation of Kiwanis’ generous donation, stating “Many people do not realize that we, too, have kids in our school who struggle to obtain even the basic necessities; everyone’s effort is sure to put a lot of smiles on kids’ faces and will help them come to school ready to learn.”
