Letter: Rebuilding Together Seeking Applicants
Posted on September 28, 2010It's the first day of fall and here at Rebuilding Together South Sound that means it's time for applications! We are reaching out to you to let you know how you can help us get the word out, and help us better serve our community.
National Rebuilding Day is our foundational event where we complete critical home repair projects for individuals and families in need. Volunteer teams, local sponsors and community partners work together with low-income families to complete repairs that will provide a safe and healthy home for the homeowners we serve. The projects can include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roofing, flooring, windows and doors, and more.
National Rebuilding Day is taking place April 30th, 2011, and it will be our biggest and best yet - we plan to complete 30 home repair projects. But we need your help finding qualified applicants. Applications for Rebuilding Day 2011 are due December 1st, 2010.
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP:
- Encourage people you know to apply: If you know of someone who is living in a home that is unsafe because they can not afford the repairs or modifications it needs, please send them to us. You can give them our application (found here) and encourage them to fill it out, or have them contact us at 253-238-0977.
- Post a flier: If you can think of anywhere to post a flier, please do so. The flier can be found here.
- Use us as a resource: We are happy to come share information with any group you might be a part of. If you think your workplace, church or club might enjoy learning about our services and how they can help, let us know.
In order to qualify for services, an applicant must 1) own their home, 2) be low-income, 3) be either elderly, a person with a disability, or a family with children, and 4) live in Pierce County, Federal Way or Auburn.
Remember, we also accept applications for our year-round Home Modification program at any time. This program provides accessibility improvements like ramps and grab bars to ensure someone with limited mobility can stay safe and independent in their home. We plan to complete 70 projects through this program in the coming year in addition to National Rebuilding Day. The qualifications for this program are the same, and if you know of anyone who needs modifications, they can apply at any time.
With your help, we can reach even more families in need this year. Please contact us if you have any questions. Thank you for your support!
