Posted on August 23, 2010

Debra Gilchrist, Pierce College District's dean of libraries and institutional effectiveness, has been invited to be the keynote speaker at an academic librarians' conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), in October.
The 2010 Information Literacy Network conference welcomes academic librarians from five countries, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, and Bahrain, to Dubai Women’s College on Oct. 30-31. Gilchrist will provide the hour-long keynote address and host a two-hour professional development workshop over the course of the two-day conference. She plans to focus on assessment of student learning and the role of libraries in helping students achieve success.

“It’s a great honor to be asked to speak at such an interesting conference, and about a topic I feel so strongly about,” said Gilchrist, who plans to round out her professional duties at the conference with some sightseeing and touring the local area. “I’m also very excited to hear the other conference presentations and to learn about teaching and learning in the Middle East.”

At Pierce College, Gilchrist heads the district’s assessment and accreditation efforts, and has been recognized nationwide as a leader in those areas.
