Antique aficionados—take note. There's a "new" business in Steilacoom; one specializing in "old" stuff. As an eye-catching display of wares takes shape on the back of an antiquated red pickup, and shop owner Al Walker explains that he's been interested in antiques "ever since high school."

This past Wednesday (business hours are from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays), he'd just unrolled a colorful Persian-style rug and anchored it with a pair of heavy pottery jars next to the truck.

Although he’s best known around the community for his landscaping talents, Walker says that, “operating an antique business gives him an excuse to ‘collect more stuff’.”

His showrooms feature an assortment of paintings (such as the tinted prints of Mt. Rainier in piecrust frames—there’s also a sand painting of the mountain—to nautical prints) more rugs, furniture, metal toys and china.

Future plans include the addition of a small-attached garden, with garden-style antiques.

Walker’s Antiques, he adds, also will be open during town festivals and holidays such as the Salmon Bake and Apple Squeeze, Car Show and throughout the concert season.

Phone 253-691-5892 for more information or stop by at 1601 Lafayette, next door to Chambers Bay Realty.
