PR: Tacoma Narrows Rotary raises funds for U.P. Library
Posted on July 7, 2010During the Fund-a-Need portion of the annual spring for Kids auction May 8, Tacoma Narrows Rotary raised $34,500 for the teen area at the new University Place Pierce County Library. The library will name the new teen space for Tacoma Narrows Rotary in honor of the Rotary’s strong support of the library and youth in University Place.
“As a result our 17th Annual Spring for the Kids Auction & Celebration of our club's 40th anniversary, it is my honor on behalf of the Tacoma Narrows Rotary Club to present this check for the University Place Library Campaign," said John Wegener, 2009-10 president of the Tacoma Narrows Rotary Club. “Contributing to create a new space to allow for teenagers to be engaged and flourish is important for our community today and tomorrow.”
The Teen Space is projected to be 1,038 square feet with seating for 16, 10 computers, a cyberbar, moveable furniture and 2,000 teen books.
Wegener presented a check for $34,500 to Lisa Korsmo, president of the Pierce County Library Foundation, at the Foundation’s June board meeting.
Volunteers with the University Place Library Campaign have been working with Pierce County Library Foundation and University Place supporters to raise funds from private donations to add innovative features and technology to the new University Place Pierce County Library.
University Place residents can help make the new library the Heart of University Place by contributing to the University Place Library Campaign.
The fundraising goal is $750,000, and already the committee has raised nearly $490,000 in private gifts and pledges.
To get involved with the committee contact the Pierce County Library Foundation Office, 253-536-6500 or University Place Library, 253-565-9447.
The new library is scheduled to open in the Civic and Library Building on Bridgeport in 2011.
