Thank you City of Lakewood, Public Works, for the outstanding job of flag placeholders along Union Ave. in Tillicum! Exactly in line, standing proudly like sentinels at attention, 100 4x6 American flags mounted on 16' poles stretch both sides of the main thoroughfare making this weekend a drive worth taking - twice!

The flags come down on Monday, July 5th, so if you would like to help, meet at Tillicum Chevron/Gertie's at 5 p.m. In the meantime, be sure to take that drive!

Click on the Tillicum homepage at www.MeetTheNeighbors.org and register if you haven't to read the comments of those who've driven the mile - then drive it yourself and enter your proud-to-be-an-American thanks to Lakewood Public Works.

Thank you to Lakewood Lions Mike Brandstetter, Hugh Hedges, John Anderson and Tillicum Neighborhood Association Vice-President Jim Taylor for installing all 100 flags in less than an hour!

Just awesome.

P.S. We were excited to observe that there are now many more placeholders than we have flags! Already we've been discussing raising money to purchase more to not only complete the mile but begin extending down the Thorne Lane entrance to Tillicum. In addition we have been given three 5x9 flags that were flown over Battalion HQ in Iraq on 9/11/05 (thank you Chris Webber, Camp Murray and Lakewood Transportation Advisory Committee member). A flag pole pavilion (one pole already donated) might soon grace the "Welcome to Tillicum Neighborhood!" sign at Entrance #123.
