Fourth celebration features bandstand dedication
Posted by · July 4, 2010DuPont/Northwest Landing celebrated America’s birthday in a big way on July 4. This year’s Independence Day holiday featured a “We Love Our Military” salute, interwoven with traditional Fourth festivities.
Dedication of Clock Tower Park’s spiffy new Bandstand was a highlight of day, according to Larry Ackerman, Director of Northwest Landing’s Residential Owners Association. The 18-24 ft. structure was festooned in red, white and blue bunting for the occasion.
“It (the bandstand) had to be ready for the Fourth,” Ackerman said earlier this week. Amazingly, it was constructed in about three weeks’ time. Built at a cost of about $40,000, it’s ROA’s “gift” to the community, he added.
The bandstand was dedicated around 11:30 a.m., following the Parade’s conclusion. And what’s a bandstand without music? Not to worry!
Entertainer Danny Vernon (the Illusion of Elvis), along with “Pat Benetar” inaugurated the stage. Expect to hear lots more music throughout the summer.
Eventually, Ackerman said, the Walkway will be restored to its original appearance. Meanwhile, the bandstand is just the perfect touch for this gem of a community park.
