BE Daily: Emergency Food Network receives $100,000 grant
Posted on June 28, 2010Washington Women's Foundation has selected the Emergency Food Network as one of five local nonprofit organizations receiving Pooled Grants totaling $475,000. Pierce County's EFN was selected in the human services category and will receive $100,000.
A decline in food donations from regional distributors has placed a strain on the EFN's resourcing program, necessitating an emphasis on purchasing staple foods that local food banks can count on throughout the year.
A significant portion of the Washington Women's Foundation award will go toward four $120,000 shipments of eight staple nutritious items that EFN offers food banks and meal sites in quarterly installments throughout the year.
A $100,000 award supports nearly six weeks of food distribution throughout the county.
