LAKEWOOD— Lakes High School ninth-grader, Sage Dixon Galbreath, has completed his Eagle Scout project at Idlewild Elementary School. Dixon Galbreath organized and completed a quarter-mile, four to five foot wide running and walking track around the Idlewild playfield, which was officially opened on June 18. The track provides an all-season path for students and the community to run and walk on.

“It’s a great addition to the school and provides staff with a chance to walk and talk with students,” said Sandy Calahan, a teacher at Idlewild. “It’s also going to help promote safety by reducing the number of muddy feet in the classroom.”

Building the track took more than 400 hours of work; planning for the project began in February. More than 70 people from Idlewild Elementary and PTA, Boy Scout Troop 53, Pierce College, Lakes High School, Christ Lutheran Church, Young Life and the Lakewood Fire Department donated their time. Financial support and donations were provided by the Idlewild PTA, Miles Sand & Gravel, Jennings Equipment and Clover Park School District.

“I appreciate all the people who donated time, money and resources to make this project a success,” said Dixon Galbreath. “It really shows you how supportive the community can be.”
