Sounders Women Return Home Undefeated
Posted on June 22, 2010The Seattle Sounders Women have made the two longest trips of their 2010 campaign and are yet to suffer a loss. Through five matches, including a home game, two contests in Colorado, and last weekend's games in California (two matches), the Sounders Women have five ties. Now, the ladies return home to the Starfire Sports Complex in search of their first win of the season against their rivals; Vancouver Whitecaps. As is often documented, a tie in soccer can mean a number of things":
“Getting points from the two long road trips looks great on paper,” said General Manager, Jon Billings, “It’s especially nice to take a point off the Pali Blues, the defending national champion.”
With that considered, a tie is usually judged on the basis of the goals. Victoria Frederick, a Sounders Women Forward had this comment about the ties, “They’re good results, but it’s frustrating when you are a better team and can’t finish the game off.” The University of Alabama product also added, “We just keep getting unlucky. The goal coming in the last 5 minutes to take away our wins really hurt.”
The last home match for the Sounders was on May 28. That match ended with a 1-1 tie. After a few days of home cooking and rest in their own homes, the Sounders will face their biggest rival, who is also undefeated in first place of the Western Conference. The Whitecaps have 3 wins and 2 ties from their matches this season. Vancouver and Seattle have battled for the top spot in the Western Conference since 2001, including a thrilling 1-0 victory for the Sounders in the 2008 Western Conference championship game.
