LAKEWOOD- Lakes High School culinary arts teacher, Mary Opdahl, was honored as the Career and Technical Educator of the Year by the Pierce County Washington Association of Vocational Administrators (WAVA). She was recognized at the Pierce County Awards Ceremony with other Exemplary Educators and students on May 20 at Bates Technical College. Opdahl received the award due to her efforts in starting the culinary arts program at Lakes. "Mary has been a wonderful addition to our staff," said Pat Hannam, family and consumer science department chair at Lakes. "She has created an outstanding program with high standards both for her students and herself and has spent many additional hours working with students for culinary competitions."
