Echelon Grand Opening

In today’s economy, it is rare that developers are investing in the construction of large market-rate apartment complexes. However, in the city of Lakewood, not only are new high-end apartments being built, the apartment community is the largest currently under construction in the South Sound region.

Echelon has begun occupying their 254 apartment homes and is slated for final completion in the summer of 2010. It is a gated community, featuring three recreation buildings on a campus-like setting surrounded by a large grove of Garry Oak trees.

“There has been very little building of major apartment complexes in the area for several years and nothing of this scale and character that I know of in the entire South Sound area,” said Brett Jacobsen, General Manager of Auburn based Landmark Development Group. “We chose Lakewood for this project because of the beautiful piece of property and because there is no other development like it in the area. When completed, these will be the nicest apartments in the vicinity and will be located on one of the most amazing settings in the region.”

The apartment community is located on the northeast corner of Steilacoom Boulevard and Lakewood Drive and is directly across the street from the Clover Park Technical College.

“This type of development provides an excellent niche for our growing population in Lakewood “said Lakewood City Manager Andrew Neiditz.” With the evolution of the Towne Center, the redevelopment taking place throughout the city, and all of our great recreational opportunities, word is spreading about what a great community Lakewood has become since it incorporated just 13 years ago.”

New apartment homes include such high-end amenities as:

  • slate tile entries;
  • granite slab kitchen bar tops;
  • nine-foot ceilings in lower-floor units;
  • cathedral ceilings in upper-floor units;
  • stainless steel finish appliances;
  • painted millwork finishes;
  • washers and dryers.

Three recreation buildings are connected by covered walkways, which house: administration offices, resident business center and a club house lounge; an exercise facility; and an indoor gym and basketball / volleyball court, together with an outdoor pool and spa. Additionally, Echelon has a walking and jogging trail system. Monthly leases range from $825 for a studio up to $1,500 for a three-bedroom unit.

Echelon and the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce are celebrating a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Wednesday, May 26th at 5:30pm. Tour Echelon’s brand new apartment homes, amenities, and serene Oak setting.

I'm not interested in moving -- I (and the bank) own my home and it's fine, but I want to congratulate you!

I am absolutely delighted, thrilled, etc. that you are preserving our native Garry Oaks. Thank you so much for that! I've been trying to grow a few, but the squirrels get to the acorns faster than I do -- even the ones I plant. I do have one yearling growing, however!
