Guest artists bring exciting new play to Pierce College stage
Posted on May 12, 2010Theater enthusiasts won't want to miss a new comedic play coming to the Pierce College stage by Seattle guest playwright Louise Penberthy and featuring guest director Richard Buckley and guest designer Stefanie Brewer.
"Miss Hannah Comes Back," a play where comedy meets Southern gothic, runs May 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. in the Pierce College Theatre, Studio 320, at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, 9401 Farwest Drive S.W., Lakewood. "Miss Hannah Comes Back" follows Cathy and Paula's move back to Paula's small Mississippi hometown, where they find a world of quirky characters and surprising prejudice – and strange, mysterious plant life.
GUEST PLAYWRIGHT
Louise Penberthy is a playwright and actor. Four of her short plays have been produced in Seattle, including the short version of “Miss Hannah Comes Back” at Freehold Theatre in February. Backwards Ensemble has presented readings of her long plays, “Another Thing to Fall” (2009) and “In the Spirits of Our God” (2008). Her short play “The Cougar in the Coffee House” will be produced by Little Red Studio in the spring. Louise is a member of the Dramatists’ Guild of America. This is her fourth collaboration with Richard Buckley.
GUEST DIRECTOR
Richard Buckley has directed more than 50 productions, including “The Secret Garden,” “The Sound of Music,” “Godspell,” “Pippin,” “Rags,” and “The Music Man.” His performance experience includes Billy Boston in “Buck Nekkid,” Archibald Craven in “The Secret Garden” and Sky Masterson in “Guys and Dolls,” among others. He is also an active playwright working on a new script tentatively titled “Visibly Fallen.”
GUEST DESIGNER
Stefanie Brewer has been designing shows for nine years. She has received two certificates of merit of achievement in lighting design from the Kennedy Center. She has designed 20 stage shows/dance concerts.
