Wllie Wansley, 81, of Lakewood, went home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday morning, the 17th of April, at home with his family around him. Willie was born to Benjamin Wansley and Roberta McKay on January 18, 1929 in Milstead, Alabama. At the start of his 22 year Military career, he met Emma Ruth Wilcox, and they married a year later on July 12th, 1948. A veteran of the Korean War, Bill and Emma traveled the world during his time in the Military, but Washington always felt like home to them; he retired here in the summer of 1968. During the next twenty years, Bill went in to business for himself as owner and operator of Biliken's TV Sales, Service, & Repairs in Ponders Corner on Pacific Highway. He worked another ten years for the Department of Corrections as Correctional Sergeant on McNeil Island. Bill enjoyed anything that kept him busy and allowed him to use his hands. He was a master tinkerer and an avid golfer. He enjoyed time spent with his 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, the New York Times crossword puzzles, and his never ending quest to create the best rub for his barbeque. Survivors in addition to his wife, Emma Ruth, include his daughter Phoebe Jacqueline Scalf, and son Michael Allen Wansley. A son, Larry Jerome Wansley, preceded him in 1999. He is also survived by his sisters Mrs. Margaret Braham of Montgomery, Alabama and Mrs. Rosa Lee Chambliss of Jacksonville, Florida. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of a man who was well loved by so many will be held on Sunday, the 2nd of May at the First Baptist Church of Lakewood, 5400 B 112th Street SW, Lakewood, Wa 98499. Internment has been entrusted to Mt. View Funeral Home. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home 253-584-0252. Please sign the online guestbook at www.mountainviewtacoma.com.
