Saniah Marcus memorial service
Posted on April 18, 2010A candle-light vigil for Saniah Marcus, the 3-year-old girl who was accidentally killed while riding her tricycle Monday, was held Friday, April 16 at Happy Days Daycare, 8311 27th St. SW, in University Place. Saniah had attended Happy Days Daycare all three of her years, along with her siblings. Donations will be accepted to cover funeral expenses.
The PTA at Sunset Primary School has also established a donation account to help Saniah's family with medical and memorial costs. Two of her siblings attend the University Place School. Donations can also be made at any Columbia Bank branch to the "Donation account for Saniah Marcus."
PTA President Monica Names is pleased that additional funds will be used at the family's direction for emergency needs of residents in the mother's hometown of Tillicum. "It is just unimaginable what the mother is going through," said Names.
Saniah’s mother, Lancy Canley, hopes there will be financial support for others facing crisis. “I want to turn this pain into something positive for my baby girl to touch someone else,” Canley said.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 11 a.m., at University Place Presbyterian Church, 8101 27th St. SW. Following a motorcade and graveside service at Mt. View, a reception will take place at the University Place Senior Center, 2534 Grandview Dr.
All services are open to the public.
