Lions step up to support CISL, community

Posted on April 11, 2010

Lakewood First Lions Club has supported the work of Communities In Schools of Lakewood for many years. Three years ago, proceeds from Octoberfest (approx. $11,000) helped CISL to offset grant funding cuts so that we could continue to run after-school, mentor and readiness to learn programs at full strength. Last week the club presented CISL with a $1,500 contribution in support of the Champions Mentor Program and the Leo's Club at Lochburn. CISL Site Coordinator, Dalemeshia Brewer, works with 3 Lions Club members to coordinate leadership and service projects for 18 middle school students at Lochburn. Last week, students picked up shovels and rakes to work on the Flett Creek Blueberry Patch just behind Lochburn. There were a few moans and groans, but they knew they were making a difference for the community…and they also know where to go for free blueberries this summer! On behalf of kids in the Leo's Club and the Champions Mentor Program, thank you Lions Club for your ongoing support.
