Anyone can enter a “truss” in the University Place Spring Flower Show. Many past winners have come from local gardens! The show is "community judged" where the winners are chosen by people coming to see the exhibit.

  1. Don’t worry about not knowing the “name” of the plant. Expert volunteers at the exhibit can help you identify it.
  2. Look over your collection of plants and select several of your best bloomers. Cut the truss (early morning is best) and “groom” it by gently removing all the bracts and bud coverings around the petals so you just have a single collar of leaves and the blossom. Lightly clean off any dirt, dust etc with a damp paper towel. Put it in water immediately after cutting. You can keep it in the refrigerator to prolong the bloom until time to bring it to the exhibit.
  3. Want to exhibit an Azalea “Spray”? The typical azalea spray should be no larger than 15 inches in either direction .
  4. Bring you’re your truss or spray to the University Place City Hall Community Room between 1PM and 5PM on Friday April 30th or between 8AM and 11AM on Saturday May 1st . . Ribbons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and “Best in Class” and “Best in Show” are awarded on Sunday Morning.
