First jail in Washington

STEILACOOM HISTORICAL MARKER - Near the intersection of Rainier & Balch Streets is this historical marker. It reads: "Site of First Washington Jail built of brick 1858 used for county, state, federal prisoners Razed 1944. Erected 1962 Pierce County Pioneers Historical Ass'n." Photo by Dave Sclair.
