Posted on March 4, 2010HERBERT WILLIAM COX, born December 14, 1916, passed away on February 17, 2010 at the age of 93. Herbert is survived by two sons - Jack & Alan Cox, a brother - Gerald Cox, and several grandchildren. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy May Lanz. Samuel Thomas was born in Sandpoint, ID to Paul and Dolly Hoffine on March 13, 1943. He died at home in Puyallup, WA on March 1, 2010. Sam graduated from Highline HS in Seattle. He received his bachelor's degree and went to work for Boeing. He also taught machinists at Bates Vocational. For the last 13 years, he owned and operated a small embroidery business in Auburn and Fife, WA. Sam's passions were fishing, singing, golf, the Mariners and the Seahawks. He had a love for animals. He is survived by his wife, Margie; son, Paul; 3 grandchildren, Brittney, Samantha, and Timmy; 1 great-grandchild, Brandon; 4 sisters, Virginia, Paula, Donna, and Judy; 2 brothers, Jim and Jerry; and his yorkie, Baby. Memorial services will be held on March 6th, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Valley Chapel at Mt. View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA. Sam requested contributions be sent to the Pierce County Humane Society. Lt. Col. Ret. Matthew J. O'Hare. Born 6/02/1917 in Washburn, N.D. to Edward and Emma O'Hare. Passed away 2/26/2010. He was raised in Esmond, N.D., graduated from Mayville State College, with a degree in Education. Joined the Army Air Corp, then in WWII joined the USAF, retiring in 1968. Matt met Ruth Boyd Hartwell at the Manhattan Dance Club and had their first date New Years Eve 1969. They have enjoyed over 35 years of a very happy marriage, living in the home they built facing Mt. Rainier and taking many memorable trips together. Matt is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, four stepchildren, three grandchildren and one great granddaughter, his sister Marian Eberle, many nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m. in the Garden Chapel at Mt. View Funeral Home. Please donate to a charity of your choice. Doris L. (Merrell) Peterson, 105, born in LaPorte, Minn. on December 9, 1904, passed away in Tacoma, WA on Feb. 23, 2010. Doris and her husband, Richard, owned and operated 2 grocery stores, one in Oakland Addition and the other in Algona, WA. Retired to Lake Spanaway, then Tahoma Terrace and finally to the Village Assisted Living. She had two children, daughter, Marilyn Weber of Richland, WA (deceased) and son, Richard, Jr., Palm Desert, CA. Survived by son and 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
