JBLM to host Annual Massing of the Colors

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. -The annual Massing of the Colors ceremony at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Lewis Main will be conducted on Sunday, March 7, starting at 3 p.m. in Carey Theater. This colorful and dramatic ceremony is a tradition that brings more than 100 different flags and organizational colors together to commemorate those patriots who have served our country, those currently serving, and those who will defend the nation in the future.

The I Corps Band will provide military music as patriotic organizations representing various Veterans groups, fraternal organizations, and area civic and youth organizations carry the American Flag and their organizational colors and banners into the theater and assemble in one large formation for a massive patriotic display. Colonel Jerome Penner, III, Commander, Madigan Army Medical Center will be the guest speaker. Col. Penner assumed command of MAMC on August 13, 2009. His previous assignment was Commander, U.S. Army Medical Department Activity, Fort Drum, New York.

Col. Penner's military treatment facility assignments include Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado; Raymond W. Bliss Community Hospital, Fort Huachuca, Arizona; Dunham U.S. Army Health Clinic, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania; Kimbrough Army Health Clinic, Fort Meade, Maryland; and Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Positions held include Chief, Clinical Support Division; Chief, Managed Care Division, and four different times as the Deputy Commander for Administration. He deployed for 12 months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and as the Chief of staff, Medical Task Force 86, Baghdad, Iraq from December 2004 to November 2005.

The ceremony lasts approximately 90 minutes, and the event is open to the public. People wishing to attend should access JBLM Lewis Main and process through the Welcome Center located near the Liberty Gate (Main Gate) by taking I-5 to Exit 122. Drivers must present a valid driver's license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance and passengers over age 16 must present a picture ID.
