Shackelford, Christensen named educators of the month

A teacher from the Clover Park School District and one from the Steilacoom Historical School District were recognized recently as Educator of the Month by the Lakewood Rotary Club.

Rotarian and former Clover Park principal Bob Peterson recognized Cozette Shackelford as the Clover Park School District's Educator of the month and Leann Christensen for the same honor from the Steilacoom Historical School District.

Shackelford is a world languages instructor at Clover Park High School, a position she has held for seven years. She teaches both French and Spanish. Last year she also stepped in to oversee he ASB leadership, In addition, Shackelford plays a major role in staff development as teacher leader for Power House.

Christensen, a teacher at Cherrydale Primary School in the SHSD for the last three years has more than a decade of experience including eight years at Saltars’ Point Elementary. While her students always come first, she is also active in professional roles including textbook adoption teams and several other areas.

Lakewood Rotary Club honors a teacher as well as a student from each district each month during the school year. The 125-member club meets each Friday noon at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club. In the more than 50 years the club has been operating in Lakewood members have raised and distributed approximately $2 million to youth, the community and, through the Rotary Foundation, the world.

Greg Horn is currently serving the club as president.
