Posted on February 22, 2010Silverio (Bill) Cabellon A beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Feb. 17, 2010 at the age of 93. He was born July 8, 1916 in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines to Gregorio and Francisca Cabellon. At age 22, he joined the Philippine Scouts and then transitioned to the U.S. Army serving with honors for 28 years. He was a survivor of the World War II Bataan Death March. After his retirement from the military, he became a military personnel specialist at Fort Lewis. On Dec. 29, 1943, he married Alicia Buenafe, a beautiful teacher, his wife of 66 years. Their children, Silverio Jr., Jessie, George, and Elizabeth, were raised by his strong discipline and his vision that they receive a good education. His 14 grandchildren are proud of him because he made sure to travel and visit them. His generosity was appreciated by his 4 sisters, Leonarda (deceased), Emilia (deceased), Magdalena, and Victoria, and his brother Maximino. Bill enjoyed getting together with friends and relatives over simple pleasures such as giving each other haircuts, exchanging stories at many social gatherings, walking at the old Villa Plaza, and roasting pig the "lechon" way. Viewing is at Mountain View Funeral Home on Feb. 20-21. Memorial mass service will be held at St. John Bosco (Lakewood) on Feb. 22 at 11:00 am. Rosary will be held at 10:00 am prior to the funeral service. The family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in his name. Mildred (Millie) A. Fleer, of University Place, WA, passed away February 16, 2010. Born August 14, 1923 to Thomas and Minnie Eckhoff on their farm near Franklin, NE, Millie worked as a secretary in Norfolk, NE until she met and married the love of her life, Merlin Henry Fleer of Winside, NE. She spent twenty-one years crisscrossing the United States as an Air Force wife, living in Texas, New Mexico, New Jersey, California and South Dakota before Merlin's retirement in Ft. Worth, Texas. In the early 1990's she moved to Washington State. A devoted Christian, Millie was an active member of many churches across the nation during her lifetime. Highly regarded for her kind and thoughtful nature, Millie was outwardly focused, always encouraging others, particularly her two children and their families. Millie was preceded in death by her husband Merlin H. Fleer, sister Stella Hall and her husband Bill, brother Andrew "Pete" Eckhoff and his wife Alberta, brother-in-law Cliff Carter, and sister-in-law Marvelyn Fleer. She is survived by her sister Ann Carter, son Bob Fleer and his wife Leslye, daughter Marcia Reeves and her husband Mitch, grandson Dean Fleer and his wife Kelley, granddaughter Ashley Reeves, great-grandson Zack Fleer, brother-in-law Arthur Fleer, nephews Larry Hall, Steve Eckhoff, David Carter and David Fleer, nieces Linda Dryak, Beverly Sauter, Tammy Ellenberger, and Lisetta Heinrichsen. Millie will be buried in the National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, with her husband. Memorial donations may be made to World Vision. Joseph L. Montgomery, 88, was one of five children born on November 20, 1921 in Fort Meade, Florida. He enlisted in the army in 1942. He was a retired veteran of three wars with 27 years of distinguished service. He was a Washington resident of 75 years. On February 14, 2010, he went home to be with the Lord. Family include: one brother; one nephew; one daughter; two sons; 10 grandchildren and a host of relatives. Viewing, Wednesday and Thursday, February 24-25, 2010, 1 PM to 9 PM, Mountain View Funeral Home. He'll be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
