Auditor launches online pet licensing
Posted on February 22, 2010The Pierce County Auditor's Office has launched an online pet licensing service, making it easier for residents of unincorporated Pierce County and the towns of Wilkeson, South Prairie and Carbonado to protect their dogs and cats - and to comply with the law.
"This additional service will be a real convenience for pet owners in our jurisdiction," said Julie Anderson, Pierce County Auditor. "We've worked hard to provide an easy and secure way for people to license their pets."
Pierce County will accept VISA, MasterCard, debit cards and e-checks for new and renewal licenses via the Internet. The service is available on the Auditor's Web site; just click on the Online Pet License link, and follow the on-screen instructions. There is a $1.50 convenience fee for the online transaction.
For those who do not have access to the Internet, the Auditor's Office will continue to sell pet licenses by mail or in person at 2401 S. 35th Street, Room 200, Tacoma. Pet owners can get more information from www.piercecountywa.org/auditor or by calling (253) 798-7445.
"In addition to being required by law, pet licenses provide quick identification of lost pets. An animal with a tag shows people that your pet is a cherished member of your family and not a stray," said Tim Anderson, Pierce County Animal Services Supervisor. "License sales also help fund the cost of shelter and medical care for lost pets."
Here is a breakdown of the cost of dog and cat licenses, which apply to residents of unincorporated Pierce County and the towns of Wilkeson, South Prairie and Carbonado, which contract with the county for animal services.
