SchroedelGrace1SchroedelGrace2Grace Mignon Schroedel March 21, 1916 ~ February 2, 2010 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gracie was born in Chicago, IL, to Nicholas and Rose Vandekieft. The family later moved to Villa Park where she received her early education, graduating from Elmhurst High School, and attending Elmhurst College for 2 years. After several secretarial positions in Chicago, Gracie married Andrew Schroedel in 1941. The new family raised son Scott and daughter Sandra, living in Minneapolis and Lombard, IL. When the children were through elementary school, Gracie completed her bachelor's degree in 1958, and earned her master's degree from the National College of Education, Evanston, IL in 1963. She continued her studies, with enough credits for a Doctorate in Education. Gracie used her expertise to teach elementary school in Lombard and Elmhurst, and upon moving to Arlington, TX, specialized in teaching Special Education. Retirement in 1982 brought Gracie and Andy to Lakewood, WA. Gracie's life revolved around her family, keeping in close touch with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her first consideration was always helping the extended family to do their best and she was most proud of all their achievements. Daughter Sandi and her sons Justin, Brandon, and Weston are especially grateful for the love, care, and concern that Mother and Grandmother Gracie extended on their behalf when they moved to Washington to live with their grandparents. She was a blessing and encouragement to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In retirement, Gracie enjoyed playing the organ, hosting the organ club in her home, traveling, reading extensively, and staying active in caring for the home and yard right up until a stroke on 10/26/09. Gracie's wit, gentle spirit, and caring about others endeared her to all who knew her. She was preceded by her parents and brother Richard. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Andy, son Scott and wife Karen, their son Nick, (wife Bridget, and future great-grandchild), and daughter Wendy. Also surviving are daughter Sandi Rose, and her sons Justin, (wife Darla, children Ethan, Evan, Ephraim, and Eileena), Brandon, (wife Addison, children Andrew, Luke, and Lily), and son Weston. Also remembering her are Gracie's nieces and nephews Gary and Molly Vandekieft, and Kathleen Vandekieft-Wright, and their children. All will cherish her memory. Her love will live on in them forever. She now rests peacefully with Christ, her Lord and Savior. The family will be remembering and celebrating Gracie's life together privately. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 253-584-0252.
