Letter: Surprised by non-resident endorsements
Posted on February 3, 2010Regarding Monday night's University Place Council Meeting, I was surprised to see two Tacoma residents give public endorsements
for a candidate for the UP City Council vacancy. I have no objection to their input, it was prepared and articulated quite well,
particularly since the decision to allow public input was made by the Council after the meeting began.
However, it caught UP residents unaware. We were not given any notice or indication that the Council had solicited support of candidates
from its constituents, who would have liked to have been afforded the same opportunity to prepare and speak on behalf of their preferred candidate.
How is it we were not afforded this liberty?

As we should all know by now, that elected government officials at all levels are far smarter than all us joe 6 pack citizens. So much so, that they know what's best for us and we should do as we are told.
Or elect all new people to those offices. :-/
