Merrie Sullivan, safe driving instructor, presented the 8-hour AARP Driver Safety course over two days recently in University Place at Bridgeport Place. At the beginning of the first session, Jaynie Jones, Community Relations Coordinator for Bridgeport Place, introduced Executive Director Sandy Nelson to the class, along with Merrie Sullivan. Guests were served pastries and coffee before class, and a selection of hot entrees and desserts for the noontime lunch break.

Jones surveyed the class to find out how they had each learned about it. More than half in attendance had read about it in a press release published by The Suburban Times. Merrie Sullivan indicated that she will make herself available to teach the course at Bridgeport Place two more times this year, in late spring and this fall (dates and times to be announced).

A thank you card from Sullivan to Bridgeport Place was circulated among the students to add their comments, which included, “…the food was great and the staff was so cordial. –Shirley S.” … “Thanks for allowing us to use your beautiful facility and feeding us, too. Maybe in a few years we will check in permanently. –A. Bell” … “Having our class at such a wonderful place helps make it a better experience. We especially enjoyed lunch…” … “Too cool! What a deal. –Don Wesel, KXXO” Wesel also remarked, “What I learned here today could save my life.”

Bridgeport Place Retirement & Assisted Living is owned and operated by Soundcare, Inc.

I was one of the participants in this class. Certainly revisited how to be a defensive driver, and was pleased to hear more than 1/2 learned about the class from The Suburban Times. Thanks Ben
