Informed gardener education class at Lakewold Gardens
Posted on June 18, 2009LAKEWOOD, WA – Lakewold Gardens is thrilled to host expert horticulturist and certified arborist, Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott. Please join us for an afternoon lecture as Chalker-Scott discusses her award winning first book, The Informed Gardener (2008, University of Washington Press). This is a science-based book that examines the most common myths and misconceptions that plague home gardeners and horticultural professionals. During this lecture, Chalker-Scott will address various topics from her book that will help gardeners take better, more effective care of their plants. Participants will leave with a better understanding of landscape or garden plants as components of a living system, which will save time, money, and energy when taking care of your garden.
This educational class will take place in the Upper Conference Room at Lakewold Gardens on Thursday, June 25th from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. To attend the class the fee is $10.00 for Lakewold members and $15.00 for non-members. Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott has a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Oregon State University and is an ISA certified arborist. She is WSU’s Puyallup Extension Urban Horticulturist and an Associate Professor in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architect.
Lakewold Gardens is a ten acre, non-profit public garden located on Gravelly Lake at 12317 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Lakewood, WA 98499. We are open year-round for tours; April-September, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – winter hours vary, please call ahead, 253.584.4106. Standard admission fees are: $7 for adults; $5 for seniors, students, and military; and free for children 12 and under.
