McGavick Student Center under construction at CPTC*
Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) campus in Lakewood is in the process of receiving a modern facelift. Construction crews are tearing up old ground to make way for the new, state-of-the-art Sharon M. McGavick student center.
The building will feature amenities suited for community and business leaders as well as students, staff and faculty members. The large, open floor plan will include individual work stations and a modern 1,500 seat auditorium, perfect for workshops, seminars and other community-based or student related events.
Three CPTC programs which work directly with the public will be located inside the new building. Floral Merchandise, Retail Business Management and the Culinary Arts programs will be placed inside the building’s periphery, creating an open commons area.
“The center will be a great place for people in our neighborhoods and on campus to come together and establish a real sense of community,” said Dr. Sharon McGavick, CPTC president. “It will be an ideal location for individuals and groups to convene as well as students and staff to congregate and socialize.”
To celebrate the construction of the new student center, hundreds of local dignitaries, city leaders, community representatives, educators, CPTC staff and instructors gathered recently for a special groundbreaking ceremony last month.
The future Sharon M. McGavick student center is one of many new renovations scheduled to take place on the CPTC Lakewood campus during the next 18-months. The future center was designed by the local firm McGranahan Architects, which specializes in designing public and educational facilities.
The student center is expected to be complete in 2007. For more information about the construction of this or any other future building at CPTC, please contact Mr. Tony Robinson, Vice President of Operations and Facilities, at (253) 589-5843 or email Tony.Robinson@cptc.edu
